Class Summary - Today we looked at the pig lungs in health class. Students should observe that the healthy lung is pinkish and very squishy. It holds air for a long time and does not have any apparent cancers on it. The smoker lung is gray / black, has a visible tumor and is hard when squeezed. When pumped up, it does not hold a lot of air. Then we used breathing through a straw to simulate what it is like for someone who has emphysema. Students filled out a reflection sheet on the straw activity with emphysema and the pig lung display.
Homework - Emphysema and Pig Lung Worksheet, Tobacco test is scheduled for Wednesday (W1 students) and Thursday (W2 students)!
Objectives - Students will state the dangers that smoking has to their lungs.
