Class Summary - Today we reviewed information on checking responsive and unresponsive victims and the signals of cardiac emergencies. Our lecture today was about the cardiac chain of survival and AEDs. The first three steps of the cardiac chain of survival; early recognition and 911, CPR and defibrillation in an adult and prevention, 911 and CPR in an infant can be done by us. The other two steps include EMS and medical personnel. AED stands for Automated External Defibrillator. We talked about what they do and went to find their locations at our school. We used the trainer to show how an AED works. We watched the short video clip of how an AED works and then I allowed a few kids to demonstrate using a manikin how a check would work all the way through the step for AED. We talked about pediatric pads used for kids and other things to know specific to the AED. We also used the PowerPoint to answer questions about the AED.
