Class Summary - Today I had the students look in their textbooks to locate the reading requirement for Monday (9/9). Students should read section 1.4 which is pages 8 and 10 to be prepared for a quiz on that material. The purpose of this is to get students ready to read and comprehend college level textbooks. Today we did an interactive activity as a class found at www.purposegames.com/game/a0b40b7397 . You can go to this site and practice at any time. Then we discussed the regions of the body. The appendicular region is the limbs of the body and the axial includes the head and ribcage/vertebrae. We talked about the planes of the body in which we will use for an activity next class period. The planes are sagittal, frontal, and transverse. We then discussed body cavities. The body cavities are posterior (Cranial and Vertebral) that are lined by the meninges and the anterior cavity (abdominopelvic and thoracic). Each of these cavities also has more specific subcategories i.e. abdominal, pelvic, mediastinum, plural etc. Students colored in a sheet representing the body cavities. There will be a quiz on these cavities along with the planes and vocabulary from page 4 figure 1.3 in the book on Tuesday 9/10. Students spent the remainder of the hour working on their assignment; the Bullet Hole Worksheet. The assignment is due Monday 9/09 and will be corrected after the textbook quiz. On the assignment students were to act as a forensic scientist and place a bullet hole on an outline where the description stated. This activity will be similar to a section of test questions (test is scheduled for 9/12).
