Class Summary - Today we went over the parts of the heart. We talked about systematic and pulmonary circulatory systems (and a little bit about coronary). We talked about parts of the heart including the atrium, valves, septum, pericardium etc. We discussed the right side of the heart tracing blood through the vena cava, right atrium, tricuspid valve, right ventricle. We also discussed chordae tendinae and papillary muscles. The left side of the heart has blood entering the left atrium from the pulmonary veins, through the bicuspid (mitral valve) into the left ventricle through the aotric semilunar valve into the aorta to the body.
Homework - Students then were to fill out a diagram of the internal and external parts of the heart.
Objectives - Students will describe the location of the heart and its functions. Students will describe the wall and coverings of the heart. Students will trace the path of blood through the heart, naming its chambers and valves.
