3/11 Quality of Life / Life Expectancy and Aspects of and Influences on Health
Summary - We started out class with an ungraded 'quiz' to review the national health standards. Today talked about the difference between life expectancy and quality of life. Life Expectancy is how long we live. We talked about factors that have influenced why life expectancy is increasing. Quality of life is how well you live. We discussed that health includes BOTH life expectancy and quality of life. Then we discussed influences on health. We talked about how health isn't just physical health. To be a healthy person, someone needs to have not only physical health but mental and emotional and social health. We discussed some of the things that would impact the health of a person like access to technology, cultural norms, social pressures, heredity, behaviors and media etc. Some of these influences we cannot control. But regarding behaviors, we do have control over our choices for the most part. We discussed how for some people, making the choices is easier because of their situation. Homework - If students have not yet completed the parent contact form they should do this. There is a test Friday on the Aspects of health. See unit page for what will be expected to know.
