Class Summary - Today I want you to learn about shock.. Shock happens when the body tries to conserve blood flow but in turn reduces blood flow to main organs of the body. Someone who experiences shock may appear irritable, cold, in and out of consciousness, confused, fatigued. Shock can be a life threatening emergency. If you suspect someone is suffering from shock, call 911, lower the person to the ground and raise their legs (as long as there is no head, neck, or back injury). DO NOT give them anything to eat or drink even though they may complain that they are thirsty. The reason for this is that if the person requires surgery it is best if their stomach is empty.
