Class Summary - Today we talked about the cerebellum, brain stem and limbic system. The cerebellum is in the fourth ventricle. It has two hemispheres with a tree-like pattern on the inside (white matter) and a wrinkly outside (gray matter). The cerebellum receives sensory input from the eyes, ears, joints and muscles about their present position. It also directs motor output from the cerebral cortex. It also maintains balance and posture and learning new skills. The brain stem consists of the midbrain, medula oblongata and reticular formation. The limbic system includes the hypothalamus and the thalamus and the hippocampus. The limbic system deals with emotions and storing memory. The students then were to use a checklist to locate the parts of the brain on the 3D computers.
Homework - Test is scheduled for next Thursday.
Objectives - Students will describe the major parts of the brain and the functions for each structure.
