Spirit ShirtsAll Osseo-Fairchild School District students grades k-12 were given the opportunity to purchase a spirit shirt for $5. These orange spirit shirts allow students to get into home events free of charge! Shirts will be sold at the first 2 home football games and the first home volleyball game. You can also get an order form on the school website to turn in to any school office. This is a great opportunity to support your peers and role models on the court, in the auditorium and with other activities. All students new to our middle and high school will also receive a shirt as a gift from our district. See Mrs. Simpson if you have any questions about this intiative. (If you know of a student who would use a spirit shirt but may not be able to buy one please contact Mrs. Simpson or Mr. Semingson.)

September Meeting and Poster Nomination ActivityAt our September meeting we at fazolis and had students nominated who they wanted to be featured on the Thunder Roles posters. Students were to nominate and defend who they thought would be the best role model to represent each sport and activity. These students will be featured on one of two posters in November. Students decided that this year they wanted one poster focusing on athletics and one poster focusing on activities. Pictures from the photo shoot can be seen on the Thunder Roles Poster tab here.

AODA Event NightsThe AODA event nights for 2016-2017 were scheduled for December 1st (boys basketball vs. Fall Creek) and December 6th (girls basketball vs. Cadott). During these activity nights students can get in free to those events, Above and Beyond students will be recognized and there will be different AODA information available including awesome giveaways (sponsored by the grant and Dicks Sporting Goods in LaCrosse). At AODA activity nights students will also be able to learn more about making good choices and staying substance free as well as providing an activity void of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. These activities are a great way to show support for our school's athletes and learn more about Above and Beyond! Pictures will be posted after the event has run. October Meeting and Fairchild PBIS 'Loyalty' Activity and Sole Hope ActivitiyAt our Octoctober meeting we planned the activities that we will be doing in November. We planned to go to Fairchild Elementary and do activities at their PBIS assemble about Loyalty. Students went to Fairchild Elementary to talk about what loyalty meant as a student athlete and a friend. Students introduced themselves and the group and then spent some time doing activities with the students. You can see pictures of the FE visit to the left. We also worked to set things up for the Sole Hope shoe cutting. During this activity we collected plastic jugs and denim items from the community. On the day before Thanksgiving break, we invited all High School (and Middle School later) to come to the community gym to create shoe kits. The items were traced into patterns and cut to assemble sets of materials to create a size 5 toddler shoe. The kits were sent to an organization (solehope.org) that will transport them to Uganda. Once they arrive, the kits will be assembled. They will be equipped with an elastic strap and soles that are made locally from recycled tires to create a complete shoe. The shoes will be distributed to children who do not have anything to cover their feet in the African communities. WXOW had coverage on the event that can be seen here. We were able to assemble enough materials to create 150 pairs of shoes. That wer sent out after Thanksgiving. Thank you to all community members, staff and students who made this project possible!!!! Slideshow of pictures of the Sole Hope activity can be seen to the left.

November Meeting and AODA Night ActivityOur November meeting focused on planning the activities for our Above and Beyond AODA nights at the December 1st and 6th basketball games. We planned a ton of activities to highlight our group and emphasize the importance of staying substance free. We had a wall of Above and Beyond member bios including information about why the members stay substance free. We also invited Above and Beyond member's hometown heroes to be recognized at halftime. These hometown heroes were recognized as having a positive effect on our students and community. We had a drawing for an Under Armour tote bag filled with goodies (entry slip included why it is smart to stay away from drugs and alcohol) and fans could create an airplane to throw at one of 4 Under Armour drawtring bags. We had our Above and Beyond slideshow showing in the commons too. See a slide show of the Above and Beyond AODA night to the left.

January Meeting and Osseo Elementary VisitAt our January meeting we ate food from Osseo Subway and went to hang out with the Osseo Elementary students for lunch and recess. It was fantastic to interact with all of the elementary students and show them what good role models act like. We took Above and Beyond magnets and handed out Oreos to the students. We sat down and made some great connections with the younger kids and reconnected with teachers that we had when we went to the elementary school!

December Meeting and Heart of the Matter ConferenceDuring our December meeting we discussed the hometown heroes night and started planning the Osseo Elementary visit. We ate Northwoods Pizza (who gave us an amazing deal on pizzas! Thank you so much). We also discussed what Mr. Zawacki and Mrs. Simpson were going to discuss at the Heart of the Matter conference in December. In December, Mrs. Simpson and Mr. Zawacki presented the activities of Above and Beyond to other counselors and health teachers from all over the state. They received some great feedback and left with some new connections and ideas for the future!
February Meeting and High School ValentinesDuring our February meeting we ate fabulous food from Osseo Family Restaurant. We spent this time creating the positive comment Valentines that were distributed on Valentine's day to EVERY high school student. We discussed how EVERY student has something positive to offer to the school and community. We brainstormed positive things that make each of our classmates unique. We typed up cards with the compliments and thoughts and stapled them to a treat. Each high school student received a compliment and Valentine on Valentine's Day.
