Class Summary - Today we discussed the accessory organs to the digestive system including the pancreas, liver and gallbladder. We also talked through digestion in the sense of nutritional needs of our bodies. We talked about energy supplying nutrients (carbs, protein and fat) and non-energy supplying nutrients (vitamins, minerals and water). We mentioned a few eating disorders that were mentioned from the book. Finally, we went through all of the pictures included with the digestive system. Then we did a review kahoot of the digestive system.
Homework - Test on digestive system tomorrow.
Objectives - Students will name five accessory organs of digestion, describe the location, anatomy and functions of the pancreas, the liver and the gall bladder and name and describe three disorders of the liver. Students will state the functions of glucose, fats and amino acids in the body, and define the terms essential fatty acid and essential amino acid. For the test, students should be able to identify anatomy from actual cadaver pictures, illustrations and the model of the torso in my classrooms (in addition to short answer questions on the test). See lesson objectives for chapter 15 on chapter home page.
