Introduction Leadership and Coaching
9/18 Using Your Voice Activity
Summary - Today we did an activity that was to develop a couple things that a leader should be able to do. Today, students were to work with a group of 3 (4 groups). One partner was the 'caller' and one partner was to be blindfolded. The caller was to give directions from behind a line to the partner who was blindfolded. The caller was to direct their partner to 7 different canisters (placed outside on the practice football field). When the partner got to the canister, they were to find a notecard of their designated color. The 7 cards needed to eventually be arranged to either a riddle, or the answer to the riddle. When finished, we discussed what was helpful and hurtful in the activity. Students said that the more vague the directions the less sure they were in where to go. They gave examples of directions that were more useful (HARD right instead of just right, three steps forward instead of just go forward, there is nothing in the way for 10 steps instead of just go foward). We also discussed how important it is to trust our leader. If trust is not present, then it makes it difficult to be a follower. The rest of the time was spent in the classroom working on the 'how to' speeches. They were to be planning, assembling materials and practicing for their presentations in the next couple days.
Homework - None
Objectives - Students will demonstrate communication skills and analyze effective and ineffective directions.
