Class Summary - Today we started out class with a quiz on a diagram of skin and nails. Then we started talking about disorders of the skin. Today we talked about several disorders of the integumentary system. We talked about athlete's foot (a bacteria spreads on the foot), impetigo (usually found on little kids it is a very contagious condition that creates pustules on the face that crust over), moles (increased amount of melanin also see skin cancer), eczema (allergic reaction), basal cell carcinoma (skin cancer usually not spread), squamous cell carcinoma and also melanoma (tends to metastasize). Today we finished out talking about skin disorders. We talked about the ABCDEs of A= Asymmetry, B=Border, C= Color, D = Diameter and E= Elevated. We then continued with talking about Kaposi’s sarcoma and warts. Students spent the rest of the hour working on an open book practice test for the integumentary system.
