Above and Beyond TShirtsEach member who qualified to be a part of our group received an Adidas 'Above and Beyond' long sleeved t-shirt the covered by the AODA program grant. This will allow members to be identified in the community as positive role models and to come together as a support for each other. We are so lucky to be supported by a grant from the state of Wisconsin to provide so many great aspects of this program to us!

November MeetingNovember's meeting we ordered pie and had a dessert meeting. The Norske Nook pie did not disappoint. Above and Beyond members spent the hour writing thank you notes to their hometown heroes and organizing and getting information for the hometown hero night. Students also had to fill out their bios that will be on display during hometown hero nights. Bios will include information about why the Above and Beyond members think its a good idea to stay drug and alcohol free, why its important to be a good role model, what activities they are involved in, who their hometown hero is and why, why they love living in Osseo-Fairchild, along with a picture. The bios are also used for the Above and Beyond student of the week information that is posted in the commons, on the website, in the high school health hallway at at the elementary school. The picture to the right is a student at the elementary checking the information out! Check out the2017-2018 Thunder Clap Student of the Week

October Meeting and Poster Nomination ActivityAt our September meeting we ate Subway and had students nominate who they wanted to be featured on the Thunder Roles posters. Students were to nominate and defend who they thought would be the best role model to represent each sport and activity. These students will be featured on one of two posters in November. Students decided that this year they wanted one poster focusing on athletics and one poster focusing on activities. Pictures from the photo shoot can be seen on the Thunder Roles Poster tab here.2017-18 Thunder Roles Posters
Hometown Hero NightsThe hometown hero nights for 2017-2018 were scheduled for December 5th (girls basketball vs. Regis) and December 7th (boys basketball vs. Regis). Hometown hero nights give the Above and Beyond members a chance to recognize adults in the community who have been a positive impact on them. Hometown heroes were recognized at halftime and Above and Beyond student bios were up. Hometown hero night has become a special night of recognition for just a handful of the amazing adults that we have in our community. Click on the link below to see who was recognized. Cookies With KidsIn January, Above and Beyond students went to Osseo-Fairchild Elementary school to eat lunch with the elementary students and enjoy indoor recess with the kids. Subway made all of our high school student meals to take over to the elementary. The purpose of this visit was to create connections with the elementary students and high school students that are seen as good role models. We shared oreos and jokes. The high school kids liked visiting their old classrooms and their former teachers. It was really neat to see the energy in an elementary school. We have amazing teachers in our district! I am not sure who enjoyed the visit more; the high school students or the elementary students!

8th Grade MixerIn March, Above and Beyond members met with the 8th grade students to discuss how the program is structured. They talked about Above and Beyond and what it meant to be a member. 8th grade students are eligible to apply to be a member of the group next year. Applications are sent out to all next year high school students the first week of May. We are excited to welcome 8th grade students who are positive role models and are involved in at least one club or school sponsored sport. We are so thankful to Osseo-Family Restaurant for DONATING the meal for us! We have such an awesome and supportive community!

High School ValentinesOur February meeting consisted of eating Northwoods pizza. Thank you so much to all of the local businesses that have been helping us on the way. Northwoods gave us a great pizza discount! During this meeting, our students were to create compliments and positive contributions comments for all of the students in the high school. These compliments were typed up onto a valentine and attached them to candy. These will be delivered to high school students on Valentine's day. We hope that this gesture helps ALL high school students feel like they contribute in a positive way to making our school a great place to be!

Staff MixerOur final full group activity for the school year gave us a chance to thank our supportive an amazing staff for everything they do to support us as students. Many of our staff regularly contribute to our student of the week postings and other activities that our group takes part in. We are so lucky to have such an awesome staff here at Osseo-Fairchild School District! The activity also gave many of the staff an opportunity to interact with students outside of their classrooms. It was awesome to see everyone in the lunch room talking and laughing! Thank you again to the Osseo subway for making so many sub boxes for this event :-).
