Class Summary - Today, students took the test on the main eating healthy suggestions. Then we started talking about the USDA recommendations for each food group. Each food group has foods that are healthier than others and ones that we should be eating less. We started with the grains group. We gave examples of the grains group and talked about the difference between white, wheat and WHOLE wheat. The rule is that we should be making half of our grain servings whole grains. This means we can still eat refined grains just much less than whole grains. We gave examples of whole grains. We talked about what the word 'enriched' means. Then we discussed vegetables and how we should 'vary our veggies' and get as many different veggies as we can. In general, the darker the color the more nutrients the veggie has.
