Unconscious Choking Victim
Class Summary - Today students took a quiz on the differences and similarities between CPR Adult, Child and Infant. Then we talked about what happens if our breaths don't go in / make the chest rise.. The first step is to retilt the head and go from there. We lectured on unconscious choking victims.
Steps:
1. Check the scene
2. Shout and Tap (They Don’t Respond)
3. Look for Breathing (They aren’t Breathing)
4. Send someone to call 911 / Get an AED
5. 30 Compressions
6. 2 Rescue breaths (breaths don’t go in)
7. Retilt head
8. Another 2 rescue breaths (breaths still don’t go in)
9. 30 More compressions
10. Foreign Object Check (don’t see an object)
11. Give a third set of 2 rescue breaths (breaths still don’t go in)
12. 30 More compressions
13. Foreign Object Check (see an object)
14. Finger sweep (object comes out)
15. 2 Rescue breaths
16. React accordingly
Homework - Start studying up for the test! (The quiz next class period is arranging cards in order for unconscious victim.)
Objectives - Students will list the steps in order for unconscious choking victim (Standard 1 Core Concepts)
Student will demonstrate unconscious choking victim care on a manikin (Standard 7 self management)
