Class Summary - If you were in class I would have given everyone a biodot to wear for a day and we would have discussed how biodots work. A biodot is a sticker that is worn on the hand. Biodots work with temperature. We would have discussed how it isn't a perfect experiment but something fun that can be used to discuss stress in our day. Biodots are made of heat sensitive material that changes color in response to changes in skin temperature. When you are stressed your capillaries constrict, reducing the flow of blood to the surface of the skin. That’s why your hands feel cold and clammy right before a big test, or when you are about to get up and give a speech. The biodot simply acts as a thermometer, showing you the changes in temperature just beneath the surface of your skin. Biodots adhere to the back of your hand and change color as the flow of blood to your capillaries increases or decreases. Black means you’re stressed, kind of like how a mood ring works. On the test on Friday, you will be asked when during the day you think you'd have a black biodot. Reflect on what color you think your biodot would be based on the picture below. Answer number 1 in the google doc found here for today's assignment: docs.google.com/document/d/1oxq_TsqAyeh5o0c_0J_NytEnNLBNioJwq7drW4wlmd0/edit?usp=sharing (as always make a copy as YOUR NAME 4/1 Online Stress Quiz, Scholastic PDF and Meme WS before you send it back to me for grading).
Finally students were to use a meme generator (https://imgflip.com/memegenerator was how I made mine below but any meme generator will work there are tons) to show what a student feels like under stress, "What I feel like when...." compared to what they feel like when they do a stress relief activity. Students were to share the memes with me by pasting them into the google doc after #12 when completed. You will be making two memes. The first one will read: What I feel (look, think, act etc.) like when _insert stressor here_”. Then, use the same meme generator to choose a picture depicting how you feel (look, think, act etc) when you do a healthy stress relief activity that works for you. Use text like “What I feel (look, think act etc.) after _healthy stress relief technique_” Create the meme and copy and paste into #12 after the previous meme (get both memes side by side in #12 if you can). The healthy stress relief technique should fit the stressor appropriately. Ex. Don’t use ‘get up and dance’ as your stress relief activity if the stressor is happening when you are taking the ACT. See my example below.
