11/13 Anatomy and Physiology
Muscles of the Neck and Trunk
Class Summary - Today we took a quiz on the muscles of the head. We also corrected the crossword puzzle. Then we learned the muscles of the neck and the trunk (thoracic wall only). We talked about muscles of the neck being used to swallow and move the head. The muscles used to swallow are deep and wont be identified on a diagram. They are; infrahyoid, suprahyoid, palatini muscles, and the pharyngeal constrictor muscles. The tongue and buccinator push food to the pharynx where the supra and infrahyoid muscles move the hyoid and the small palatini muscle and pharyngeal muscles push the food to the esophagus and then the process repeats. The muscles that we talked about that move the head are sternocleidomastoid (flexion and turning head left and right), trapezius (extension and scapula movement) and the platysma (depression of the mandible). We also discussed muscles used for respiration including the intercostal muscles and the diaphragm. Then we discussed the internal and external obliques, the transversus abdominis, and rectus abdominis. All studyblue flashcards are up to day for the test Tuesay. I also added review games on the review games link (See the bubble below).
