Class Summary - Today students were quizzed on the nutrients material starting from water through proteins. Then we discussed the nutrient 'fat'. We know that fat has 9 calories per gram and is the most energy dense nutrient there is. We know that fat should also be 30% of the calories that we eat. Fat often gets a bad rap but we need fat in order to survive. There is several reasons we need fat; to feel satiated (full), to cushion organs, to store vitamins, to keep healthy cells, to produce correct hormones etc. We will continue talking about fats next class period.
