Mental Disorders cont. (PTSD, Impulse Control Disorders, Anorexia)
Class Summary - Today we continued our lecture on mental disorders by discussing the following; PTSD, Mood Disorders, Impulse Control Disorders, and Schizophrenia. We also talked about a few specific impulse control disorders. We discussed what they were gave some examples (kleptomania, shopping, gambling etc.) Throughout discussion we gave examples of what someone who might think they are suffering from one of these disorders could do and what the treatment might be. The emphasis is that not all mental disorders are the extremes that we see in movies and that many people suffer in silence when their behaviors could be treated. Today we also discussed signs and symptoms, health problems, risk factors and logistical things associated with anorexia nervosa. We emphasized that it is a mental disorder. It is not just as simple as making someone eat. It is just as much a control thing as a body image thing.
