Class Summary - We started to look specifically into carbohydrates. We learned that there are 2 categories for carbohydrates; simple and complex. Simple carbs give us quick energy but they don't last very long. These tend to be rich in foods that taste sweet and have sugars ending is 'ose' (fructose, lactose, sucrose). Complex carbs give us more of an even energy. These are found in foods with starch or fiber like grains and vegetables. Today we reviewed everything we had talked about with carbohydrates (and a brief review of the other nutrients we've talked about. Today we explained and started the stations lab on simple carbohydrates / sugar. Students were to go to different tables that included label reading, examples of sugar amounts in common snacks, word finds of the dangers of too much sugar, cereal labels, unscrambles of words used for sugar, and trivia questions about sugar. We will finish stations next class period and correct the lab packet.
