Summary - Today we looked more closely at the National Health Education standards so we could more clearly understand why we are learning in the way that we will this year. Students were given pieces of tagboard. One piece that they were given had a title label in color of each of the 8 National Health Standard. They were also given 40 examples of things that we will be learning in health education this year. The students' task was to pick 5 examples of each health standard and arrange them under their appropriate standard. We then discussed the answers in a large group. Attached below are the examples with their correct standard (some can double count for more than one standard also). Today we also talked about the difference between life expectancy and quality of life. Life Expectancy is how long we live. We talked about factors that have influenced why life expectancy is increasing. Quality of life is how well you live. We discussed that health includes BOTH life expectancy and quality of life.
