Class Summary - Today we went through the corrected digestive system test. This week we will do a crash course of the respiratory system. Students will take a 'quest' at the completion of the crash course (3 lessons). The quest is weighted like a test but the depth and length of a quiz. This crash course and a short introduction of the reproductive system will be the last new information that is covered in the school year. We will spend the next week reviewing 2nd semester information to be prepared for the upcoming pig dissection. The 'final' at the end of the year will be separated into two parts (because seniors will be leaving early). May 23rd will be all model and diagram based information. May 24th will be all factual and short answer based information. This will be the final grade for the students.
Today we started the anatomy of the respiratory system by talking about the location, function and parts of the nose (nostrils and nasal cavity, chonchae and paranasal sinuses), pharynx (nasopharynx, oropharynx, laryngopharynx), the larynx including vocal cords and glottis and laryngeal prominence, and the trachea and cartilaginous rings and mucosa.
Homework - None
Objectives - Students will describe the events that comprise respiration, students will describe ventilation including inspiration and expiration, and students will describe the structure and functions of the respiratory system organs.
