Class Summary - Today we looked at the importance of a good relationship between teens and their health care providers. We talked about health care providers being doctors, dentists, therapists etc. We used emojis to show how comfortable we'd be discussing certain topics with our health care providers. We talked about how important it is to be open and honest in order to get the best possible care. Then, students arranged situation cards under headings for 'good relationship' with doctor and 'bad relationship with doctor'. Then, students used a resource from the PATCH program to learn what their rights were regarding health provider care. It talks about confidentiality, alone time, setting up an appointment, insurance concerns and other topics that may be questions regarding teenagers and their relationships with health care providers. Students are always encouraged to work with their parents as supports with these topics, but it is also important to start gaining some independence regarding health care needs.
