Class Summary - Today we discussed the cerebral cortex. The cerebral cortex is all gray matter than controls voluntary movement and a lot of sensory communication in the body. We discussed the Broca's area (motor speech) and the Wernicke's area (interpreting speech). We also discussed the basal nuclei. This part of the white matter makes sure the correct body muscles are activated at the right time. Parkinson's disease and Huntington's Disease are believed to be disorders of the basal nuclei areas.
