Introduction and National Health Education Standards
Summary - Today we started talking about the National Health Education Standards 1-8. These standards are the goals that we have for health education. They are 1. Core Concepts; this is factual information helpful to know to be a healthy person 2. Analyzing Influences; this is WHY we make the choices we do, if we can figure this out it is very helpful in making good choices 3. Accessing Information; this is finding accurate information about health topics 4. Interpersonal Information; this is communicating effectively 5. Decision Making; this is having strategies to make the best decision possible in a health related situation 6. Goal Setting; setting an effective goal and working towards it 7. Self Management; having the skills to be healthy on your own 8. Advocacy; speaking on behalf and encouraging others to make healthy choices too. HOMEWORK - Homework for today is to have a parent click on the home page for high school health and fill out the 'parent contact form'.
Objectives - Students will correctly identify, match or give examples of the National Health Education Standards (Standard 1 Core Concepts).
Students will give an example of how they could advocate for a health related behavior (Standard 8 Advocacy)
Students will make a goal for this year using the SMART goal acronym (Standard 6 Goal Setting)
Students will answer, from an example, how you would encourage someone to make a positive choice regarding a health related issue (Standard 8 Advocacy)
